James Chance & The Contortions Announce West Coast Dates in March 2017

James & the band will be heading out to California in March for some shows, their first out there in quite some time. Two shows have been confirmed so far with more to come. Melt Yourself Down: New James Chance & The Contortions Track Now Streaming at Stereogum!

Wrap your ears around "Melt Yourself Down," the brand new single from James Chance & The Contortions, over at Stereogum. Its the first taste of James' next album, The Flesh Is Weak, which he has been working on recently with Contortions member/producer Tomas Doncker and the folks at True Groove Records. TORONTO SHOWS UPDATE / DATE CHANGE: Now two shows on December 10 at Rivoli

The previously announced Toronto shows of September 7 & 8 have been rescheduled to two shows in one evening. The shows will now be at Rivoli on December 10. Tickets are $30 for each show, or a special price of $50 for both, and are available via the following links:

James Chance & The Contortions ready first new studio LP since the ’80s, playing Bowery Electric (BV presale)

No Wave legends James Chance & the Contortions are set to release their first proper album since the ’80s. Produced by longtime Contortions guitarist Tomás Doncker, it’s titled The Flesh is Weak and will be out via True Groove Records this fall, featuring brand new material and favorites from their live set.

The band, which also includes Eric Klaastad (bass/vocals), Richard Dworkin (drums/vocals), Mac Gollehon (trumpet), and Robert Aaron (saxophone/keyboards), will play a record release show at NYC’s Bowery Electric on November 10 with BUENO and Logan X. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 26 at 10 AM with a BrooklynVegan presale beginning Tuesday, August 23 at 10 AM. Check Brooklyn Vegan Tuesday morning for the password.

James Chance's photo book is out now! Taken by Anya Phillips, James's former manager and girlfriend, the photo book features portraits of James from the late 70's until her death in 1981. The book is published by Vacant, a gallery in Tokyo at a limited edition of 500 worldwide.
